Having only studied the front elevation from the standard viewpoint on Hornby Bridge, I'd presumed this was a Victorian folly, but although it was remodelled in the 1850s and again at the end of the century, the castle dates from at least 1362-3, still has a sixteenth century tower, and was used 'for real' in the English Civil War. Somehow that's more obvious from this, the eastern side. The Grade I Listed building is now a private home. |
