Hornby Castle and Church are obvious landmarks in the village.
The large hill behind that, on the far side of the Lune Valley, is Middleton Fell, with Barbondale to its right. The flat-topped hills in the distance are the Howgill Fells, which many people will recognise as those to the right of the northbound M6 and London-Glasgow railway. Sedbergh isn't visible, but is at the mouth of the gap between Middleton Fell and the Howgills.
