Aisles decked

It's the moment for which you've all been waiting: the Sainsbury's christmas stock is now on the shelves.

This weekend just gone was the equinox (nominally), so the solstice must be 91 days away (21 Sept to 21 Dec). That means there's an entire quarter of a year between today and the festival of commerce. I'd have thought the christmas produce would go off sooner than that.

That's nothing - Harrods started in August.

Harrods and similar shops are a special case. Tourists might want souvenirs at any time of year, and christmas decorations are good souvenirs, so it'd be understandable if they had year-round christmas departments.
I bought a painted egg in Prague in June 2005 to be hung on my mother's christmas tree.

Sainsbury's is selling christmas basics, such as biscuits rather different.
