Stop panicking, everyone!  I know you've all been deeply concerned, and thanks for the kind expressions of your condolences, but my vacuum cleaner hasn't burned-out, after all.

It seems it merely got a little overheated and needed a good night's rest.

What? It's a good vacuum cleaner!

I panicked the first time mine did that. I thought "Dammit - £300 down the drain!", and hurridly rummaged through old files to try and find the user manual ... which said "If it cuts out, leave it to cool".

A couple of hours later, I was happily sucking up cat-hair again

Yes, I used to have a cat who slept on my head, too.

For some reason, I didn't think vacuum cleaners contained thermostats and cut-outs; I didn't think such features were in the manufacturers' interests.
