Random vicarious observation

Last week, Lynn discovered that the red Highland cattle of a million Scottish touristy publications are a relatively recent invention.  Naturally, the species is black, but the Victorians liked the anomalous red ones, so bred them selectively.

Well, I thought it was mildly interesting.

I thought it was interesting too. No really, I did...

...perhaps I need to get out more, eh?

My excuse is that I'm still really tired after New York and the time difference (my body's telling me it's 10:35, having just worked through most of the night), so only the slightly odd is getting through the haze.

No, it is interesting, honest. I'd prefer them in black.

For aesthetic reasons or because that's their "natural" state?

Oh, aesthetics, definitely. I don't have any particular antipathy to selective breeding. I just like the colour black ;)

Lynn has a photo at the link I gave in the main posting. Compare it to this one. Both have their attractions, but I prefer the monochrome version.
