Why do goths wear stripey socks?

It's not a joke; I just don't see the inspiration or reasoning. There must be a reason, right?

NP: Staind, '14 Shades Of Grey'. Second run-through, and I still wouldn't rate it higher than 'inoffensive'.

Goths don't! Alternatives do, but you will find that real, true goths do not wear stripey socks, they wear black and/or white, I think you will find that you are mistaking alternatives/skaters/punks for goths.

'True' goths?

I know self-professed goths who wear stripey socks, though they're unable to tell me the source of the fashion.

As I've said elsewhere, I reject the concept of 'gothic validity'; the only person qualified to say what is and isn't goth is the individual claiming to be one.
